Tonight’s Colts/Chargers Pick

NFL WEEK 12 BETTING REACTION:

Today was another crazy day in the NFL. The Titans lost their first game of the season. I kept riding the Titans as they’ve won myself a lot of money in the last three weeks. I figured that they wouldn’t lose their first at home, but you know the Jets aren’t going to lay down. The Jets stopped the run and the Titans offense couldn’t do anything. That’s all there was to that one, along with a huge defensive let down by one of the NFL’s best defensive units.

My next play, Giants -3, is in good shape. The Giants built up a 24-12 lead, but the Cardinals are threatening in the end of the 3rd. Cardinals end up with a TD, 24-19.

The Cowboys got a big win to add 2 units. The Dolphins/Pats was the most entertaining game of the day. They battled back and forth for three quarters and the Pats ran away with in in the 4th. It was 31-28 at one point. The Dolphins defense has been solid all season long, so I thought I would get a good effort from them. If I knew the Dolphins were going to score 28 in this one, I would say that I’m pretty confident that they’ll win. Randy Moss went off: 3 TDs, 125 yards.

The Redskins are battling in Seattle. They had a 17-10 lead, but the Seahawks bounced right back to tie it.

We might have also seen Donovan McNabb’s last days as an Eagle. He was benched after the first half.

TONIGHT’S PICK:

I already have a 1-unit parlay of Colts and Packers, which pays 4 to 1.

Brandon likes the over 49. I can see this one scoring …

Vegas’s Quick College Football Picks

Posted by in College Football Picks on November 22nd, 2008 | Comment »

I’m not putting any money on college football this week, but these are the spreads that I would consider if I were.

NORTHWESTERN +2.5 over Illinois

Boston College -2.5 over WAKE FOREST

MARYLAND +1.5 over Florida State

VANDERBILT -3.5 over Tennessee

Michigan State +16 over PENN STATE – MSU is 9-2 (i.e., they shouldn’t be 16-point dogs), it’s cold, Penn State will have problems focusing after their huge loss to Iowa last week. I think Penn State wins this one, but I say by 3-13 points.

Tonight’s Prime Time Game: TEXAS TECH @ OKLAHOMA -7

I can’t wait for this one tonight. We’ll see at least 60 points, which the over/under reflects at 76. You have to love Texas Tech’s offense, but Oklahoma’s has been just as good. Oklahoma is clearly the more well-rounded team. There’s no way I can picture Texas Tech in that championship game. I think Oklahoma will cover with a win by at least 10. I wouldn’t bet on this game since it should just be a back and forth offensive battle. First team to get the other team to punt should win this one. It’s just an exciting game that I’m looking forward to watching tonight.…

NFL Week 12 Picks Against the Spread

Posted by in NFL Picks on November 20th, 2008 | Comment »

CINCINNATI BENGALS @ PITTSBURGH STEELERS -11

I like the Steelers to cover, but the field conditions may lend itself to a low-scoring game, which would then favor the +11. I wouldn’t bet on this one until you know how Pittsburgh field will be. It’s notorious for getting bad. The Bengals and Eagles went 13-13 after 75 minutes. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Steelers win in a 23-13 game. The Bengals offense is really bad and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Steelers shut them out.

HOUSTON TEXANS @ CLEVELAND BROWNS -3

I’ll go with the Browns at home. Quinn is looking good and Texans just can’t seem to win anything.  Update: Quinn messed up a finger, check up on that.

BUFFALO BILLS -3 @ KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

I like the Chiefs in what should be an ugly game. I’m definitely not counting on the Bills (1-5 in their last 6) to win this one on the road.

NEW YORK JETS @ TENNESSEE TITANS -5

The Jets have a great opportunity to hand the Titans their first loss, but I don’t see it happening in Tennessee. As Brandon says, never bet against a streak and I say that the Titans still have a goose-egg in the loss column and win by a TD or two. Titans 24-14.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS @ MIAMI DOLPHINS -1.5

The Patriots have been able to win games, but the Dolphins have been winning game. They’ve won four in a row and I like them at home. This is a great spot to take the Dolphins as you don’t even have to lay down a touchdown. I still always am hesitant when I say bet the Dolphins though. Are they due for a let down? …

IDEAS ON A NEW SYSTEM

Posted by in NFL General on November 19th, 2008 | Comment »

I am always working on coming up with a way to win without having to do countless hours of research. One thing I have learned about gambliing is never bet against a streak. When I go play blackjack I use a progressive method meaning that when I win one hand I increase my bet and continue to do so as long as the streak continues. I don’t double up but lets say I bet $15 and continue to win the progession would continue something like $20, $25, $35, $45, $60, $75 and so on. For me, this has worked out pretty well. The downfall is that you have to win at least two hands in a row to break even, after that it is all profit. For a while I have been trying to figure out a way to logically apply this to sports. So I came up with the idea that if a team has covered or not covered in at least two games in a row I will start betting with them or against them depending on whether they have covered or lost. A few exceptions apply, only bet with the streak as long as the team they are playing against is not on a streak as well. A couple of streaks that have happened this year in football. The Tennessee Titans have covered 9 of 10 with one push. So if we would have started betting with them after their second cover our bets would have looked like this:

1. Bet $27.50 to win $25 total profit $25

2. Bet $38.50 to win $35 total profit $60

3. Bet $55 to win $50 total profit $110

4. Bet $71.50 to win $65 total profit $175

5. Bet …

Press Release: Help THE PASS RUSH Help California

Posted by in NFL General on November 17th, 2008 | Comment »

For those who haven’t been paying attention to the news lately, over 100 California homes burned to the ground in Santa Barbara county this past weekend. I felt compelled to help this situation, so I’ve decided that 100% of our website’s ad revenues this Friday, November, 21, will go to a recovery fund for the victims of this disaster.

To support this cause, all you have to do is visit www.wrestlescoop.com or www.thepassrush.com this Friday and visit our website like you normally do. You should also support our great sponsor, Yardbarker.com, for making this possible.

Additionally, this Christmas, all ad revenues generated on Christmas Day will be donated to charity. I haven’t decided on a charity yet, maybe we’ll have a poll here on the site and let our great fans vote on which charity they would like to see the contribution go to.

Thanks again for your continued patronage and tell your friends to support the cause.…

Browns vs. Bills Monday Night Preview

Posted by in NFL Picks on November 17th, 2008 | Comment »

Well, the last two weeks I’ve remained dead even. This past week I capitalized off the Titans, Saints, and Cardinals, but lost on the Panthers and Eagles.

At first glance, I didn’t like the spread on tonight’s game (Bills -5). I then looked at the over/under, which was set at 40. That was rather curious. My first impression was that the Browns will give up a lot of points, but will also score a lot of points, but that of course is on a dry field in good condition. The over/under clearly reflects the forecast tonight: snow.

If you remember the last time the Browns played Cleveland, the game ended 8-0. Talk about ugly. That was in blizzard-like conditions though. Tonight’s forecast is in the low 20’s with scattered snow showers and a chance of snow at 30%. The consensus seems to be that the snow won’t pick up until midnight.

I don’t think the weather will be all that bad. The Bills will be without their top DE Aaron Schobel and Browns run-stuffing DT Shaun Rodgers is probable (playing with a banged up knee). With the Browns defense being a huge liability, and Brady Quinn looking solid with an offense that, at times, can really move the football, I like the over. I am a bit concerned about the Bills offensive woes lately, as they’ve been held to under 17 points in their last three games (MIA, NE, and NYJ). Their last 4 games are 0-3-1 against the over. Lee Evans will need to step up this game for the over to hit. Beast Mode should have a big game against the 27th ranked rush defense of the Browns though.

The over is a bit risky due to the …

Brandon’s College Underdog Plays

Posted by in College Football Picks on November 12th, 2008 | Comment »

Warning: There are very few games that fit the system this week and from my research over the past five years week 12 and on, underdogs begin to struggle. There are just a few games I am posting, but none of these plays are very strong. I will also be posting my own plays that I feel are very strong.

Underdog Plays:

1. Utah and San Diego State (+29): I know that SDS’s record is terrible, but they have a decent chance of covering this spread. Utah is coming off two very difficult games in which they have struggled to score and probably should have lost both games. This is also a spot where Utah could be easily looking ahead to their big game verse BYU in two weeks. That game will determine whether Utah gets that BCS bid. Looking at the stats it is clear SDS plays much better at home scoring 29 points per and almost 400 yards of total offense, which is somewhat better than Utah’s stats on the road. The primary weak spot for SDS is their defense. They have simply been terrible giving up 29 points per at home over 35 on the road. Utah will easily win this game, but they may not be at their best considering it is a good spot for a let down off their big win last week and their big game in two weeks. (Rating +1)

2. BYU at Air Force (+5.5): I am a little surprised by this line, I thought it would be closer to 8 or 9. This is obviously AF’s biggest game of the year and they have played pretty well so far this year. One of the keys to this game will be …
