Survivor Pool – Week 17 (2011) – 49ers or Saints?

Posted by in NFL Survivor Pool Picks on December 31st, 2011 | 1 Comment

Question: What would be a good survivor pool pick for week 17?

The first game that I like is the San Francisco 49ers over the St. Louis Rams. However, the 49ers need to be able to play for home field advantage in order for me to take this pick. My second choice would be the New Orleans Saints over the Carolina Panthers.  Although the Saints are on a short week, Drew Brees always plays well at home. My third choice would be the Atlanta Falcons over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I like the Falcons at home who are fighting for playoff position.

Of those three, what do you think is the best pick for week 17? I know a lot depends on what happens on Saturday night with team jocking for playoff position. Any advice would be appreciated. I am one or two people remaining out of 91 people. I hope I win.

Answer:

The Panthers are a dangerous team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Panthers beat the Saints. You saw the Rams upset the Saints earlier this season. I say you stick with the 49ers. You have the best defense in the league on your side against one of the worst offenses in the National Football League. I don’t think the 49ers will be resting starters as they are still playing for playoff position. Go with the 49ers.

Week 16 – RB – Matt Forte or Fred Jackson?

Posted by in NFL Week 16 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on December 29th, 2011 | Comment »

Question: Which RB should I go with in week 16?

The Championship game is on the line! I have Jamaal Charles, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Fred Jackson, Matt Forte, LeGarrette Blount, and Tashard Choice.

Pick your best three.  I am definitely starting Jamaal Charles and likely LeGarrette Blount. Looking forward to your input.

Best answer:

I like your choice of going with Jamaal Charles and LeGarrette Blount. It’s between Matt Forte and Fred Jackson. I would go with Forte.

NFL Week 16 Picks Against the Spread

Posted by in NFL Picks on December 24th, 2011 | Comment »

NFL Week 16 Picks Against the SpreadMerry Christmas everyone.  I have been getting into the habit of posting my football picks on Saturdays, but all of the football action is today due to the holiday. All I can do at this point is throw up some quick picks. Not a whole lot of games that I like anyway. We’ll have to tease the Pats and Ravens and go with the Panthers over the Bucs.

TEASER: PATRIOTS (-2) over Miami w/ RAVENS (-4) over Browns

We have two home teams with big spreads to cover that should be a lock to win as they’re both jocking for playoff position in the AFC. The Patriots should take care of business at home over the Dolphins and the Ravens should take care of business against the Browns.

Prediction: Patriots 27 – Dolphins 20

Prediction: Ravens 27 – Browns 13

Pick Against the Spread: Patriots (-2) and Ravens (-4) Teaser (Confidence: 3/5)

CAROLINA PANTHERS (-9) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs have been awful losing 8 straights games and going 1-7 ATS in that stretch. The Panthers dominated the Bucs 3 weeks ago when they played in Tampa 38-19. I don’t see any reason why this week should be different. The Panthers defense is a huge liability and can let you down, but there’s no doubt the Panthers will outscore the Bucs here. The Bucs average 16.7 PPG on the road and 16.0 PPG in their last three games. Carolina has averaged 29.8 PPG in their last three games. They are rolling right now. Tampa’s defense has also given up an average of 36.7 PPG in their last three games.

Prediction: Panthers 31 – Bucs 17

Pick Against the Spread: Panthers -9 (Confidence: 3/5)…

Week 16 Championship – Start or Sit – Hakeem Nicks or DeSean Jackson?

Posted by in NFL Week 16 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on December 22nd, 2011 | Comment »

Question: I’m in the Championship Game and I’m debating whether I should bench Hakeem Nicks or Laurent Robinson in favor if DeSean Jackson.

My current starters:

QB – Philip Rivers
WR – Calvin Johnson
WR – Hakeem Nicks
WR – Laurent Robinson
RB – Ryan Mathews
RB – Arian Foster
TE – Jermichael Finley
W/R – Roy Helu
K – Jason Hanson
DEF – Houston

Bench: DeSean Jackson, Aaron Hernandez, Carson Palmer, Cam Newton, Jabar Gaffney, and Kahlil Bell

Thank you

Best answer:

I would definitely start DeSean Jackson over Laurent Robinson. That is a ridiculous line with Jackson in. You may want to then sub Laurent Robinson for Roy Helu at the flex. Helu’s carries have been going down.

Survivor Pool Pick – Week 16 (2011) – Steelers, Ravens, Texans, or Patriots?

Posted by in NFL Survivor Pool Picks on December 19th, 2011 | Comment »

Question: What team should I take in week 16 of my survivor pool?

I have 4 picks that I’m looking at:

1.) BAL over CLE
2.) PIT over STL
3.) HOU over IND
4.) NE over MIA

Which pick do you think is a lock?

Best answer:

I would avoid the Ravens and Texans as they look bad this past week. I would take Steelers over the Rams. With the Steelers at home, this game should be a lock.

Monday Night Pick: Steelers vs. 49ers

Posted by in NFL Picks on December 19th, 2011 | Comment »

Steelers vs 49ers Pick Against the SpreadWe are coming in to tonight’s Monday Night game 6-0 ATS in our last 6 Monday Night picks. I would ordinarily just pass over this game as too close to call, but I have to post a pick to keep the Monday Night streak alive! I’m going to recommend a teaser by taking the points and the under.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS @ SAN FRANSISCO 49ERS (-3)

Despite Big Ben getting the start tonight, the 49ers stay at 3-point favorites. I say take advantage of the points. This is a pretty even matchup on both sides of the ball. While the 49ers have averaged 28 PPG at home and 23.6 PPG throughout the season, the 49ers offense has struggled lately, scoring just 19 against the Cardinals and putting up 6 on the Ravens. Patrick Willis is also out this game.

This is a big game for the Steelers, who have an opportunity to move up a game on the Ravens in the AFC North race, which is the difference between a No. 1 or 2 seed vs. a No. 5 seed. In what will no doubt be a tight game, I will want the points on my side, especially since the Steelers could win outright.

With both defenses giving up a combined 18.6 PPG in their last 3 games — that’s 6.3 PPG allowed by Pittsburgh and 12.3 PPG allowed by the 49ers — the under 37.5 is compelling. What is even more compelling is adding the points to the over and taking the Steelers at +10.

I usually like to tease Monday Night games and see the perfect opportunity to take points while betting on the under with two of the best defenses in the league squaring off. Points will be …

Survivor Pool Pick – Week 16 (2011) – Ravens or Patriots?

Posted by in NFL Survivor Pool Picks on December 19th, 2011 | Comment »

Question: What team should I take in Week 16 of my survivor pool?

I’m thinking of taking the Baltimore Ravens over the Cleveland Browns. Baltimore is undefeated at home and the Browns are pretty terrible. I also like the New England Patriots over the Miami Dolphins. I need to find a team that will has something to play for in week 16. The pool started the season with 91 people. I am one of only 3 remaining! Could really use your advice this week’s pikc.

Answer:

It’s tough to recommend other teams when I don’t know who you have already taken. If it’s between the Ravens and the Patriots, I would for sure go with the Ravens. The Ravens over the Browns should be a lock. I’m still alive in my survivor league and I’m taking the Steelers. Good luck.
