NFL Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em Advice

Week 2 – RB – Sit or Start – BenJarvus Green-Ellis or Willis McGahee?

Posted by in NFL Week 2 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 14th, 2012 | Comment »

Question:

I have LeSean McCoy as my RB1 and my RB2 spot is between BenJarvus Green-Ellis (vs. CLE) or Willis McGahree (vs. ATL). Who should I start this week?

Answer:

I think you’ll see both backs put up solid numbers this week. BenJarvus Green-Ellis should pile up the yards against a soft Browns run defense. However, I would go with Willis McGahee. I’m expecting a shootout in the Falcons vs. Broncos game. That could lead to some more goalline opportunities for McGahee.…

Week 2 – RB – Start or Sit – Ryan Matthews or Stevan Ridley?

Posted by in NFL Week 2 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 14th, 2012 | 1 Comment

Question:

I have Ryan Mathews and Steven Ridley on my squad. Mathews was out week 1, but should be back in the lineup in week 2 against the Tennesee Titans. Do I start Matthews this week or give him another week before I put him in my starting lineup?

Answer:

Ryan Mathews is itching to get back on the field and he should play this week. What a performance from Stevan Ridley though in week 1. 125 yards and 1 TD. New England is at home and facing the Cardinals. Ridley may have another big week. The Chargers may decide to be cautious and have Mathews split carries with Ronnie Brown. I would go with Ridley this week.…

Week 2 – WR – Start or Sit – Darrius Heyward-Bey or Lance Moore?

Posted by in NFL Week 2 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 14th, 2012 | Comment »

Question: I have a WR dillema for week 2.

I have 3 WR spots and a WR/TE flex spot this week. My WR’s are Wes Welker, Roddy White, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Lance Moore? Who would you sit?

Best answer:

I would go with Lance Moore. The Saints are playing the Panthers this week, who don’t have a very solid defense. Brees will be throwing a lot. Although Moore is Brees’ 4th option after Jimmy Graham, Colston, and Sproles, Brees still likes Moore who had 120 yards last week and 1 TD. Darrisu Heyward-Bey had a decent week 1, but I would go with Lance Moore who has a better matchup and a more impressive week 1.

Week 2 – WR – Start or Sit – Mike Wallace or Eric Decker?

Posted by in NFL Week 2 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 14th, 2012 | 2 Comments

Question: Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 2?

Start 2 WRs:
Victor Cruz (vs TB)
Marques Colston (@CAR)
Stephen Hill (@PIT)
Mike Wallace (vs. NYJ)
Eric Decker (@ATL)
James Jones (vs. CHI)

Answer:

I would start Victor Cruz and Eric Decker. Cruz has the ability to exploit Eric Wright as Aqib Talib will be on Hakeen Nicks most of the game. I expect Atlanta vs. Denver to be a shootout so Manning should come firing and will look for his boy Eric Decker. Good luck!

Week 1 – WR – Start or Sit – Justin Blackmon or Dwayne Bowe?

Posted by in NFL Week 1 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 4th, 2012 | Comment »

Question: Which WR do I start in week 1?

Justin Blackmon vs. MIN
Dwayne Bowe vs. ATL

Answer:

If Dwayne Bowe didn’t hold out this offseason, Bowe would be a good choice, but it may take Bowe a few games to get back up to speed. Blackmon also held out for a long period of time, but he got a lot of reps in the preseason and has looked very good in preseason action.

Blackmon got a crazy amount of targets from Blaine Gabbert in the preseason. I expect Blackmon to have a solid rookie year with around 65 receptions, 900 yards, and 5 TDs to be a little conservative.  An 80 reception, 1,000 yard, 6 TD season is certainly a possibility based on this guy’s potential.

Blackmon has been very impressive so far this preseason and is drawing the praise of his coaching staff. Blackmon is the man to go with in week 1.…

Week 1 – Flex – Sit or Start – Maurice Jones-Drew or Ronnie Brown?

Posted by in NFL Week 1 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 4th, 2012 | Comment »

Question: Which player should I start in my flex in week 1?

I’m in a standard league that has 3 flex spots.

Here are my players: Maurice Jones-Drew, DeAngelo Williams, Ronnie Brown, Kevin Smith, Kendall Wright, Robert Meachem.

I’ve pretty much  locked in DeAngelo Williams and Kevin Smith. I’m wondering who should start in the last spot.

Answer:

Expect MJD’s carries to be limited this week against the Vikings. The guy ended his holdout just a few days ago and may not even play. If he plays, I expect Rashad Jennings to get the majority of the work with MJD getting just a few carries. With MJD’s carries limited, I wouldn’t trust him in my starting roster.

I really like DeAngelo Williams this week. Tampa Bay’s defense ranked 32nd against the run last season and Jonathan Stewart is still recovering from a sprained ankle that he suffered in the preseason. DeAngelo Williams is going to have a monster game.

Kevin Smith is the other no brainer with Michael Leshoure suspended and Jahvid Best on the PUP. Kevin Smith will be getting all of the carries for the Lions against a Rams defense that is very poor against the run. I’m expecting a monster game from DeAngelo.

In the last spot, I am between Ronnie Brown and Robert Meachem. Check on the status of Ryan Matthews. He may have to sit week 1 out due to his broken collarbone. If Matthews is a scratch in week 1, Ronnie Brown is your man. If Ryan Matthews is set to start, I would take a shot on Robert Meachem and hope that he burns the Raiders with the deep ball from Philip Rivers. I need to see what Kendall Wright is all about …

Who to start in Week 17? Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith?

Posted by in NFL Week 17 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on January 4th, 2012 | Comment »

Question:

Week 17 feels like a bye week, it’s very weird. Normally this would be a no brainer, but should I start Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith? Rodgers might rest quite a bit like he did last week, and at least Smith will play the whole game and it will be against the awful St. Louis Rams defense.

Also, what about Larry Fitzgerald. I know it’s “rest ’em” week, but I have a feeling he’ll get more playing time than is assumed. Or maybe I just need him to. Maybe I can “will” him to play. I’ve already had to sit Vincent Jackson and play Devin Aromashodu in his place, and my other options are Dwayne Bowe and Josh Morgan. Which is why I still have Fitzgerald in there. I’ve also had to sit Tony Gonzalez and sub with John Carlson. I’m assuming that Indy will sit their defensive starters, too, so I’m going to take a chance with Fred Jackson. Any advice on the QB and WR situations, though?

Who in the world would have a championship game in week 17 anyway? My other RB is Chris Johnson, so I’m good there.

Answer:

I would probably go with Smith given the uncertainty of GB players resting. I would also go with Bowe for the same reason. I would rather take my chances with players that will play the whole game then get screwed because a team decides to rest their players.…
