Vegas’s NFL Week 7 8-Team Teaser

Browns +14.5 over Redskins – Browns offense has their mojo back and their defense is looking solid to boot. I think they have their confidence back up and getting 2 TDs makes it comfortable. Got the cover.
Jets +4 over Raiders – The Raiders are very bad and the Jets are headed in the right direction on both sides of the ball. Got the cover.
Texans -2.5 over Lions – Texans at home vs. an awful Lions team. Calvin Johnson is questionable. If he’s out, you can lock this one up. Even if he plays, the Lions don’t have the O-line or QB to throw to him. Got the cover.
Saints +10 over Panthers – Saints should be able to hang with the Panthers in a shootout. Saints take 7-3 lead. I like it. Stupid fumble by Shockey leads to Panthers 10-7 lead. I guess I need points for the over, let’s hope Saints will drive back down and score, they’ve been moving the ball well. Panthers up 13-7 at the half. Saints get ball to start 2nd half. Reggie leaves game with knee injury. Saints down 20-7, that’s not good. Great, Drew Brees INT to set the Panthers up in the redzone. Bad news just gets worse. Saints take it to the 3 but come up short on 4th down. They had a chance to get back in there, but no dice. And that’s all she wrote. The Saints let me down and it came down to 3 things: Shockey’s fumble (led to 7 points), Brees’ INT (led to 7 points), and Reggie Bush’s injury (led to 0 Saints 2nd half points). Bummer.
Saints/Panthers over 37.5 – It seems obvious that the over should hit. 5 TDs and a field goal? These teams shouldn’t have a problem with that. Missed by a half a point, but the Saints already screwed the card.
Steelers -2.5 over Bengals – Steelers are off a bye week and have a poor Bengals team being led by a QB named Fitzpatrick. 38-10.
Titans -2 over Chiefs – Some people are calling the Titans NFL’s best team. Amazing defense, strong running game. I like them dominating the Chiefs off the bye. A quick 17-0 start for the Titans. Titans dominate as planned.
Bears +4 over Vikings – Bears have been playing well. They had a huge let down last week in Atlanta, but they’ll be at home and should rebound. Even if the Vikings escape with a W by a field goal, I’m still safe. If the Vikings can only get 12 points at home against Detroit, they should be shut down by the Bears D. Berrian and Rice are both questionable for Vikings. Stack the box and stop AP. Easy game plan for the Bears. Bears also have a lot of injuries too. Both starting CBs are questionable. Official Bears Injury Report – looks like they’ll have more players than not. At least their DTs are probable. The CBs are questionable and Booker is probable. The Bears gave up an early 7 to AP, but Orton drove them right down to tie. Bears ST then cashed in 7 on a blocked punt. Whoo! Tied at 14. Bummer. Now a MIN fumble for another CHI 7. CHI up 24-17. Frerotte throws an INT on the very next play! CHI up 27-24 at half. Who would have thought that this game would be the over to take. Bears take 10 point lead. 48-41 Bears. What a wild one.
It looks good on paper. Let’s see what happens. I’m going in with the mindset that teasers only hit in rare circumstances. It’s a chance to get back in the game with a small bet. But as we learned, how things look on paper don’t always translate to what you see on the football field. Despite that, I’m pretty confident in this one. The Bears/Vikings may be a tight one and the Jets have to pull through on the road, but at least I’m getting 4 points in those two games. I’ll have to say that I really like this card.
Good luck to all of you this Sunday.
Bottom Line: Nailed 6/8. The Saints bust my card. Couldn’t cover the 10 against the Panthers and the over missed by a half point.
The good news: Cowboys lost!

Date: Oct 19, 2008 at 1:36 pmNope, I placed the bet. It’s a great card for 10:1 odds. The 1st half of the 1:00 games is going well so far. The Saints are still in the Panthers game, they’ll just need to score to start the 2nd half for that one to work out. Bears, Steelers, Titans all leading at half.
