Vegas Martin’s Two Cents To Brandon

Week 3 College Football Picks

Well Played Brandon.

So far, I’ve been cleaning up in college football. The NFL has been pretty damn hard this season, like any, and it just seems that it’s easier to gauge college football thus far this year. In the NFL, I was .500 in week 1 and followed that up going 2-0 for my two big Sunday plays, a lone miss on a small teaser, a stupid bet on the Sunday Night game, and no action on Monday Night. With the winnings from college and the Packers and Falcons plays from week 2, I’ve built up a solid bankroll for the remainder of the year.

As always in college football, you can always expect unprecedented upsets on occasion, but the majority of times, you know how things will typically go down. I would just like to start off by saying that I’m mostly on board with all of Brandon’s Picks. I would say that my favorite plays of his are Nevada and South Carolina. Here are my two cents on his games. I’ll be posting my thoughts on other games later.

  • South Carolina (+3) over AUBURN — I’m loving South Carolina this year as they’re clearly the top team in the SEC after Alabama and Arkansas of course. Auburn is a tough place to play, but I’m thinking this is a “hangover” game for them as they’re spent from their come-back win over Clemson last week. South Carolina is clearly the better team. This one is only a matter of how important home field is a factor.
  • Kentucky (+14) over FLORIDA — Brandon is hating on LSU and Florida this year so this pick doesn’t surprise me although this one isn’t for me. Kentucky is 3-0 this season and their offense has been prolific in their last two “warm up” games against Akron and Western Kentucky. Last year Florida waxed Kentucky 41-7 when they were ranked No. 1, but as Brandon will tell you, this is a whole different Florida team.
  • Central Michigan (+8) over NORTHWESTERN — I like this call. Central Michigan always has a respectable football team and Northwestern is far from an offensive juggernaut. Take the points in what should be a tight, low-scoring game with a lot of running to milk the clock. Central Michigan may pull off an upset, but a Northwestern win by 3, 4, 6, or 7 seems like how this one will end up.
  • BOISE STATE (-17) over Oregon — Brandon’s call on Boise State last week was golden. Coach knows that they must go 12-0 ATS if they want a shot at the National Title and this is Boise’s last “nationally recognized” opponent. After this one, the only statement games Boise can make are against Nevada and Fresno State near the end of the season. However, Oregon State has a very decent team, losing to TCU by just 9 on the road. Boise State has a better defense and a better offense than TCU so hopefully you get enough for the cover. Should be much tighter than their roll over Wyoming.  Oregon State painted their field blue to prepare for this one. We’ll see how that works out for them. Good luck with this one.
  • Nevada (-4) over BYU — I like the call. Nevada’s offense is unreal, averaging over 50 PPG. After BYU beat Washington in their home opener, they dropped two road games to Air Force and Florida State and averaged just 12 PPG in those two games. Their offense has questions and their D didn’t live up to standards in those road contests. It’ll be a different story when they return home where they topped Washington, but I agree, Nevada is the play. I’m not expecting 50 from Nevada in this one, but I think they should score somewhere between 28 and 38 and I don’t see BYU scoring more than 24. I really like this play.
  • Temple vs. Penn State Under — If Penn State only puts up 24 points against Kent State and holds them to 0, I don’t see why anyone would think the over 47 would hit. Still waiting on the line, but B says take the under if anything is posted above 45 and I concur. Defense and running, that’s what Penn State does.

My thoughts on some other games to follow.
