Week 9 – WR – Nate Washington or Deion Branch?

Posted by in NFL Week 9 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on November 7th, 2011 | 2 Comments

Question: Which WR should I start after Roddy White… Nate Washington or Deion Branch?

Which 2 wide receivers would you play? I have Roddy White, Nate Washington, Deion Branch, and Jabar Gaffney. Feel free to give your reason behind the choice as well.  Thank you.

Best answer:

I would go with Deion Branch. Now that he’s back with Tom Brady, he’s a much better option than Nate Washington and Jabar Gaffney. Nate Washington will get lots of looks with Kenny Britt out. However, I would still take the receiver that’s paired up with Brady although Brady will mostly throw to Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski.

White for sure. He’s going up against the Colts.

As for the other three, I’d consider them a toss up – they’re all going to score you a few points, but I don’t know which one will score you a touchdown. Here’s my thoughts.

Washington is easily the best option to throw to on the Titans team; however, his QB is Hasselbeck (not terrible, but definitely not elite) and he’s going up against a Bengals team with a surprisingly strong pass defense this year.

Branch will get some points, but Brady likes to spread the ball. I could easily see every receiver on the Patriots team getting a few points against the Giants.

Gaffney’s almost in the same position as Washington since he is the de facto WR1 on the team. However, it seems like all the passes recently have been going to Fred Davis. Again, since he is WR1, he will score you a couple points, but I’m not sure if he’s going to get you any touchdowns.

I would sit Jabar. Short answer: Jabar is not going to have any opportunities against a stellar 49er defense and neither will his quarterback; play action will not be effective as the niners are so good at containing the run in their normal defense that they won’t ever “bite” on the play-action even if they believe it. Washington is in serious danger of getting shut-out again; stay away!
