NFL Week 10 Predictions and Picks Against the Spread

Posted by in NFL Picks on November 5th, 2008 | Comment »

Sorry for missing the NFL picks last week. I was crazy busy, but I’m back this week for a quick run-down of each game.

DENVER BRONCOS @ CLEVELAND BROWNS -3

Two games into the season and the Broncos looked like the most explosive offense in the NFL. Now, they look like they’re terrible. After suffering losses to the Patriots, Jaguars, and Dolphins, they go on the road and I wouldn’t be confident in them. Brady Quinn got the nod as the Browns QB. Even though they got killed by Ravens last week, I like the Browns at home. They did beat the Giants at home.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS -6.5 @ DETROITS LIONS

I think it’s always a good idea to bet against the Lions. For a second, I thought the Lions were almost about to get their first win of the season last week against Chicago, but no dice. The Jaguars haven’t done too much to impress me, but they should roll over the Lions. They lost to a terrible Bengals team last week, but they have the Lions dude. You also have to think that the Lions are finally due for one at home. Can they really go 0-16? Well, maybe.

TENNESSEE TITANS -3 @ CHICAGO BEARS

I thought the Titans would be heavy favorites. Especially that Rex Grossmen will probably remain the Bears QB with Orton injured. You kind of have to sense a trap game for the Titans, but like the Ravens game they played on the road, this should be a low scoring defensive tussle, and I see them coming out on top in the end. I think the Titans are a very good play. I would pay any amount of money to have Jeff Fisher coach my football team.

BUFFALO BILLS @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS -3.5

Not a great game to bet on. The Bills just fell to the Jets at home when the Jets gave them about every opportunity to stay in the game. Two straight division losses for the Bills, can they snap the streak? The week before that was a loss against the Dolphins. I would avoid this one. This just looks like an ugly game that will be painful to watch regardless of which team you end up taking.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS @ ATLANTA FALCONS -1

This is an extremely intriguing matchup. The Falcons have been coming on strong and are playing excellent football. New Orleans has the advantage coming off the bye week, but the Falcons will be at home. I like the Falcons in this one. I don’t think the Saints have the defense to stop Matt Ryan, Roddy White, and Michael Turner. The Falcons defense has also been playing at a high level. This should be a very fun game to watch as you can see the over/under reflect that being set fairly high at 50.

ST. LOUIS RAMS @ NEW YORK JETS -8

I don’t think the Jets are worthy as 8-point favorites. I would take the points and hope for a tight game. The Jets have been playing in tight games lately so the 8 points will be a huge advantage throughout the game. If the Rams can protect the ball, they have a good chance of covering, but if they give the ball up like they did last week against the Cardinals, they won’t be able to cover. It’s as simple as that.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS @ MIAMI DOLPHINS -9

Who would have thought the Dolphins would ever be 9-point favorites at the beginning of this season. They’ve won 2 straight against tough teams (Bills and Broncos) and the Seahawks are in a big funk. The west coast team playing on the east coast is also another huge factor in their advantage. I like the Dolphins to cover. The Seahawks offense hasn’t been doing anything, so you’ll see a lot of 3 and outs from them.

GREEN BAY PACKERS @ MINNESOTA VIKINGS -2.5

The Packers took care of business in the beginning of the season when they hosted the Vikings and I think they can do it on the road. I’ll take the Packers.

CAROLINA PANTHERS -9.5 @ OAKLAND RAIDERS

Did anyone see how bad the Raiders were last week? They had -2 yards of offense in the first half! JaMarcus Russell’s state line 6/19, 31 yards, 1 INT. Talk about ugly. Take the Panthers!

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS @ SAN DIEGO CHARGERS -15

With the amount of points the Chargers have been giving up, I don’t think they have any business being 15-point favorites. I don’t necessarily suggest taking the Chiefs with the points, but a 10-14 point win by the Chargers seems like how this game will end up.

NEW YORK GIANTS @ PHILADELPHIA EAGLES -3

As an Eagles fan, I’m certainly glad to see the books think that the Eagles should win this one. Their defense is playing outstanding, but the offense sputters at times. The Eagles will need a brilliant performance from Brian Westbrook, who is getting healthier, to win this one. This one should be a battle and an excellent game to watch on Sunday Night.

BALTIMORE RAVENS -1 @ HOUSTON TEXANS

I’d go with the Ravens. That defense will give the Texans problems.

SAN FRANSISCO 49ers @ ARIZONA CARDINALS -9.5

Theis 49ers team is in disarray and the Cardinals offense just keeps scoring in bunches. With the amount of points that the 49ers have been giving up all year long (28.8 PPG) it’s a safe to say that Cardinals should score 28-31 points in this game. I think that should be enough to cover unless the 49ers can miraculously get their defense together off the bye week.

BOTTOM LINE: I like the Titans and Panthers the most this week, but they’re both on the road. I think the Dolphins are a good home team to take even though you have to give up 9, but you have the west coast team on the east to your advantage.
