Vegas Martin’s Week 9 College Football Picks

Posted by in College Football Picks on October 31st, 2009 | 1 Comment

I’m going to throw out a bunch of random college picks.  Again, my forte is the NFL.  Brandon’s focus is college football and you can read his college football picks here, but I want to see how these picks work out.  I didn’t do a lot of homework on each game, so do you own due dillegence on each game before betting on it.  Good luck!

Started off the week hitting 2/3 at 12:00!  Ended today 4-3, so we booked some profits.  GT and Cincinnati were clearly the strongest games here and those were big hits.  Going into Sunday with more ammunition.

Brandon’s picks were stupid good today, 5-1 on the day, 6-2 on the week!

Cincinnatti -15.5 over SYRACUSE — Syracuse is the Raiders of the NCAA, I love betting against them. Cincinatti has too much offense and defense for Syracuse to handle.  I cashed in on WVU -10 over Syracuse (34-13) 2 weeks ago and expect similar results in this one.  Cincy is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games. (W)

CIN 28 – SYR 7

Ohio -6 over BALL ST — Brandon loves betting on Ohio this year, but they’ve had some tough losses in the past few weeks.  I think they get back on track against an awful 1-6 Ball St. team. (L)

OHIO 20 – BALL 17

WISCONSIN -7 over Purdue — Wisconsin plays solid football at home and Purdue is getting too much credit after their win against Ohio St. (W)

WIS 37 – PUR 0

HOUSTON -6.5 over Souther Mississippi — I love Houston this year and you have a chance to take them at home at less than a touchdown.  Houston is 5-1 ATS and averaging 40 PPG.  Souther Miss is no slouch, but I think they’re outmatched here. (W)

HOU 50 – SM 43

TULSA -14.5 over Souther Methodist — Tulsa has a solid offense and Southern Methodist doesn’t have a defense.  This is just Tulsa’s 3rd home game.  They’ve had a tough schedule and I think they’re jacked up to be at home again, so look for them to want to light up the scoreboard against an easy opponent.  I would like this spread more at -14, but I still think they roll over SM. (L)

SM 27 – TULSA 13

Miami -6.5 over WAKE FOREST — Some people are calling Wake to pull off the upset, but they’ve just been downright awful in their last 3 games.  I don’t see how they’ll be able to stop a potent Miami offense. (L)

MIA 28 – WF 27

Georgia Tech -11 over VANDERBILT — GT is red hot now, beating some very solid teams recently.  They rolled over Virginia and beat Virginia Tech.  They should easily roll over a weak Vandy team. (W)

GT 56 – VAND 31

Good luck!

Vegas Martin…your top 6 picks may go 3-3 this week. I like the Steelers also but that is too tough of a game to rank as your 4th pick. Denver at home on Mon night coming off of their 1st lost of the season last week…if I were you, and if you are behind this week, I would not put too much on this one to catch up.

I didn’t get a chance to get to your web sit and give my top 5 on the comments…but I made a mess this week…so far 8-3 for all the games played and 4-1 on my top 5 picks…ranked by strength…1 CAR 2 CIN 3 KC 4 MIA 5 IND.

Something to note and keep in mind for the rest of the year…9 dogs came in today. The lines are giving too much credit to the teams with better records and the home teams…vital to scrutinize good records and see who did they beat. Also alot of the good teams are getting figured out and getting sloppy. Evidence of this is the Saints last Mon night game…Falcons were moving the ball with ease against the NO’s D. This week against CAR they made a lot of errors which almost caused them the game…Saints will have more high spread to beat in the upcoming weeks and I will be looking for the teams that will fight and their stats show they can fight and make it close or even win the game…the only thing that needs to be remembered is that the Saints offense is great and will make up for the sloppy play and the D which after watching Mon nights game can be beat.

Another example are the Colts today…very sloppy play and HOU seem to have an answer to almost everything that the Colts were trying to do…both on offense & D.

Next week…the Colts may be defeated…the line should be IND -3 at home & the o/u should be about 50. Interesting numbers are coming out of Vegas…money line NE 115 IND 105. NE could have beaten DEN and the lost to NYJ… was a lost to a team in their division…which every team in the NFL, year over year lose to a team from their div. NE looks like they got their groove back and Brady is playing like when they were the best team in the NFL…when NE were the champs…Brady always played better each week compared to the week before…he is doing it again. I need to study more and review all sources…but preliminary analysis has NE looking good up 3 points before the game starts…many would say this is a tough game, but not as tough as one may think when you start looking at the trends of these two teams thru the 7 games they played.

The game tonight…I picked PHI –2.5…let’s enjoy this one…

    TGI Sunday
