Phillips’ Wild Week Deserves Wild NCAA Parlay Pick:

Posted by in College Football Picks on October 16th, 2008 | 4 Comments

While parlays offer nice payoffs, I always seem to lose one game to keep from that big payday. Well, I have had an ubelievably lucky week so I thought I would throw a crazy 12 team parlay together, no teaser, straight parlay. For $5 this parlay pays an amazing $3000. I have a shot to win it if only based on the fact that I have the ticket and the games haven’t started yet. Wish me luck. Here are the picks:

1. UCONN at Rutgers Scarlet Knights +1: FINAL SCORE RUTGERS 12 UCONN 10

2. Memphis at East Carolina Pirates -8: FINAL SCORE ECU 30 UM 10

3. Virginia Tech at Boston College Eagles -3 BC 28 VT 23

4. Kansas Jayhawks +20 at Oklahoma OK 45 KU 31

5. Mississippi at Alabama Crimson Tide -12 ALA 24 MIS 20

6. USC at Washington State Cougars +42½ USC 69 WSU 0

7. Pittsburgh at Navy Midshipmen +2½ PITT 42 NAVY 21

8. Ohio State at Michigan State Spartans +3 OSU 45 MSU 7

9. North Carolina at Virginia Cavaliers +4½ VIR. 16 UNC 13

10. Toledo at No Illinois Huskies -9½ NIU 38 UT 7

11. Baylor at Oklahoma State Cowboys -17 OSU 34 BU 6

12. LSU Fighting Tigers -2½ at South Carolina LSU 24 SC 17

Let me know what you think. I think I could easily win 8 or 9, but lets hope for 12.

You said you could easily win 8 or 9. For those of us who want to pick a 5 game parlay which 8 or 9 are the best bets?

Here are the games, to me, that seem like locks:

    1. Rutgers: why is a 1-5 team just a small underdog at home vs. a 5-1 team? That should say something about what vegas thinks is going to happen in this game.

    2. BC: An unranked team favored at home, again says something about the oddsmakers confidence in VT.

    3. Kansas: Kansas is a solid team and Oklahoma is coming of a tough loss, I’ll take the points.

    4. No. Illinois: You have to believe it has been hard for Toledo to focus after such a huge win.

    5. Virginia: after a rocky start and looking like one of the worst teams in football, they have righted the ship and look like the team many thought they could be this year. Still not confident about UNC, especially as a favorite on the road.

    6. Wahsington State has been terrible, but IF they can score once or twice they should cover.

    7. LSU is not as great was what most thought, but I still believe they are a very good team with a very solid defense. I think just the opposite of SC, I think they are simply terrible and highly overrated.

    8. Navy: they have played solid football for most of the year and Pitt is not very good against the run. If Navy controls the ball and avoids turnovers they should win.

    9. Alabama: give Nick Saben a couple of weeks to prepare for a team and you got to think the Tide will come out rolling and put the lock down on defense.

Those aren’t in any particular order, but I think they are all solid plays. Don’t go blowing your bankroll on parlays, but a small play could still bring home a nice ticket.

    Bo Simp:

I am working hard on a big parlay for week 9. I will be posting it probably late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. I have 10 teams, but need to consider a few more things before I make a final decision.

Thanks for the comments and support.
