Week 3 – RB – Start or Sit – Ryan Matthews or Steven Ridley?

Posted by in NFL Week 3 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 22nd, 2012 | Comment »

Question:

Who should I start? Steven Ridley or Ryan Mathews in week 3?

Answer:

Steven Ridley will take on the Baltimore Ravens on the road and Ryan Mat]thews will have the Atlanta Falcons at home. Ridley has so far been a great mid-round pick putting up about 18 points in week 1 and nearly 10 points in week 2.

Mathews has been sidelined for two weeks with a collarbone injury. His return is still questionable. Matthews wants to play and the fact that he practiced this past week is an encouraging sign. He’s on track to get the start this Sunday, but I don’t like the fact that it’s still an unknown if and how much he’ll play.

The good news is that the Chargers have the 4:00 game and the Patriots play at night. I think you go into this one with Ryan Mathews as the starter and if he’s a last-minute scratch, which is unlikely at this point, you can insert Stevan Ridley in your lineup. Mathews is the play this week as he has a better matchup than Ridley.…

Week 3 – WR – Mike Wallace of Dwayne Bowe?

Posted by in NFL Week 3 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 22nd, 2012 | Comment »

Question:

I can’t figure out if I should Mike Wallace or Dwayne Howe at WR2. Help!!

Answer:

You shouldn’t go wrong with either player. I like Mike Wallace’s matchup in Oakland, especially since the Raiders top two corners are injured.

From the San Francisco Chronicle:  Whoever plays cornerback for the Raiders on Sunday, they’re going to have their hands full with Pittsburgh receiver Mike Wallace. “Fastest kid in the world,” Raiders safety Michael Huff said of Wallace. “You see him on film and you see corners playing off … he is probably track-Olympic-fast, to be honest.” The Raiders have been looking for answers all week now that they are without both starting cornerbacks, Ron Bartell (shoulder) and Shawntae Spencer (foot). Backups Pat Lee and Joselio Hanson didn’t inspire much confidence last week against the Dolphins.

Wallace is averaging 55 YPG and has had a TD in each game.

Dwayne Bowe also had a hell of a game against the Bills with 8 receptions, 102 yards, and 2 TDs. The Saints have a suspect defense which should allow Bowe to put up big numbers as well.

The bottom line is that you can’t go wrong with either of these guys. With the Raiders starting corners out, I think you should exploit that and take Mike Wallace this week.

Good luck!…

Week 3 – Survivor Pool Pick (2012)

Posted by in NFL Survivor Pool Picks on September 22nd, 2012 | Comment »

2012 NFL Week 3 Survivor Pool PickYou’re luck to have survived week 2 of your survivor pool if you avoided the New England Patriots and opted for the Cincinnati Bengals. We picked the Texans in week 1 and debated between Bengals and Patriots for week 2. The majority of fans voted for the Bengals over the Browns, which was the pick to make in order to “save” the Patriots pick for later in the season. Well played if you avoided the Patriots last week.

In week 3, I think the choice comes down to Chicago Bears over St. Louis Rams or New Orleans Saints over Kansas City Chiefs. I would like to stick to home teams, but if you don’t like either of those games, you can look into either San Francisco 49ers over Minnesota Vikings or Pittsburgh Steelers over Oakland Raiders.

Despite the Pats getting upset at home by the Cardinals, I still believe you do not pick road teams in survivor pools, so I’ll only focus on the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.

I don’t have a lot of faith in the Saints defense, but their offense should be able to take care of business against the Chiefs at home. The Saints were 8-0 at home last year and covered the spread in every game. However, without the services of head coach Sean Peyton, the Saints are struggling, starting the season 0-2. The Saints will also be without WR Marques Colston.

I expect the Bears to rebound this week after their week 2 debacle in Green Bay. The Bears had 10 days to prepare for this one so the extra rest should be to their advantage. The Rams put up a hell of a fight the last two weeks and ended up beating …

SMART BET COLLEGE FOOTBALL PICKS for September 22

Posted by in College Football Picks on September 22nd, 2012 | Comment »

TEMPLE (+7) at Penn State: I took a stand against PSU last week verse Navy and got crushed. At first I thought I would avoid this game, but after analyzing the game and the teams I decided to take a second stand against PSU. PSU has probably played about as well as anyone could have expected. Temple on the other hand has clearly under performed. PSU finally got their first win last week and therefore it is a potential let down spot, yes again, for them. Temple should be more than ready and focused for this in-state rivarly. So really what this comes down to for me is which team is more likely to play their best game and for me that is Temple. Stats for both teams in pretty much all offensive and defensive categories fall below average, but I think Temple can improve and should do so on Saturday. PLAY ON TEMPLE for 1 UNIT.

ARMY/WAKE FOREST OVER 55: The key to this game is obviously the offenses. The two defenses have combined to give up over a 150 points in just 5 games total. Army is terrible against the pass and should not be able to stay with the speed of WF. On the other side, WF is terrible against the run and we know Army is going to run the ball over 90% of the time. I think both teams have the ability to score in the low 30s, and it is possible if WF’s passing game gets going early they could score have a hundred themselves. BET 1 UNIT ON THE OVER 55.…

Week 3 – Picks Against the Spread (2012)

Posted by in NFL Picks on September 20th, 2012 | Comment »

Week 3 Picks Against the SpreadIn week 1, we nailed our only 9/10 game of the season and nailed it big thanks to the Texans. In week 2, we hit a few singles ending up with a 4-2 record against the spread. We hit both the Sunday and Monday Night picks are now stand 2-0 on Monday Night. We are rolling into week 3 with a ton of momentum. After taking an initial look at the lines, I hate this week. Nothing popped out instantly and I had to do a lot of digging to separate which lines to consider. We have 9 home dogs this week and that scares the crap out of everyone with the home dogs starting off the season 8-3 ATS, but I can’t help but pick against the majority of them in week 3. Let’s see what we got. Games are ranked in order of confidence.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-4) over OAKLAND RAIDERS — Confidence: 7/10 — The Raiders just haven’t played well at all this year. I had higher expectations coming into this season. 75% of the public is taking the Steelers (-4). This looks like a road favorite you can take a shot on. The Raiders are without their two starting corners and their defense has been terrible. Wish the backups good luck covering Wallace and Brown. The Raiders can’t generate pressure and they can’t tackle. McFadden is off to a slow start in the Raiders new blocking scheme. His average is a dreadful 2.1 YPC. I’m going to make the Steelers a top play this week.

Detroit Lions (-3) over TENNESSEE TITANS — Confidence: 7/10 — Through two weeks, the Titans look like garbage but they had to face the Pats in week 1 and then go on …
